Dr. Amir Shama was born and raised in Southern California. Throughout his career, he has cared for patients across the region, including Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside, Santa Barbara, Ventura and San Diego, and is now pleased to serve the Coachella Valley community. He earned his bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee.

Dr. Shama completed clinical training at several leading eye care institutions, including UCLA’s Jules Stein Eye Institute, the Doheny Eye Institute and UC San Diego’s Shiley Eye Institute. During his training and clinical practice, he developed extensive experience in the diagnosis, treatment and management of ocular disease and pathology, as well as caring for patients undergoing cataract and refractive surgery. He also gained extensive experience caring for LASIK, refractive surgery and cataract surgery patients at NVISION Laser Eye Centers in San Diego, Ventura, Santa Barbara and Camarillo.

His clinical interests include ocular disease and pathology, including diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, macular degeneration, retinal conditions, cataracts and ocular surface conditions such as dry eye and red eye. He provides comprehensive medical eye care and works closely with patients to preserve vision and maintain long-term ocular health. He also provides pre- and post-operative care for patients undergoing cataract and refractive surgery.

Dr. Shama is committed to providing personalized, thorough care and helping patients become more informed about their eye health and treatment options. He enjoys educating patients about their examination findings and believes that helping patients understand the causes of their eye conditions, the significance of their examination results and their treatment options is an important part of quality eye care. He believes that eye examinations should be engaging, educational and informative, helping patients feel comfortable and making eye care an enjoyable experience.

Outside of the office, Dr. Shama enjoys hiking, nature photography, traveling, weightlifting and exploring the outdoors. He is passionate about health, fitness and maintaining a balanced, active lifestyle.
